The goal of the Vision to Action program is to help you identify and align the various levels of processes involved in solving a problem or completing a project. The purpose is to clarify and connect the cluster of behaviors, capabilities, beliefs, values and roles which are necessary to accomplish the defined mission in a particular context.

This will help you become clear about the 'what', 'how', 'why' and 'who' of your actions and how these different aspects interrelate. As a result you will have a richer understanding of the processes involved in the project or solution and be able to act in a more coordinated fashion.

The basic steps involved in the process involve:

  1. Defining the goal or vision to be achieved.

  2. Establishing or 'unveiling' the other levels of processes (or deep structures) which will support the achievement of the goal in that context—i.e., the 'how', 'why', 'who' and 'who else' involved in reaching the behavioral outcome. This accomplished through the use of questions and verbal 'prompts'—sentences which are already begun for the you, so that all you have to do is to complete them.

  3. Synthesizing the answers into one of two formats. The description of the project or solution may (a) start with the context and required behaviors and then state the capabilities, beliefs, values, roles and mission which are the higher level supporting structures for the behaviors; or (b) the description can be formatted to start with the statement of the vision and mission and then specify the values, beliefs, capabilities, etc., which support that vision and mission.

The objective result of the Vision to Action alignment process is to reach an understanding and consensus about all of the levels of processes required to reach the desired state. Because you have a better understanding of all of the levels of processes that are involved in the successful achievement of the desired outcome, the process of alignment helps you feel more clear and committed in relation to the actions required to complete the project or implement the solution to the problem. The Vision to Action program is also very valuable as means of team building and forming a group 'mission statement'.
